½ inch, iridescent violet-blue, saucer-shaped flowers with
purple-violet veins and radiant white centers. Bloom time is from

Vegetables If you are
looking to start a vegetable garden, start preparing the beds in March
with a mix of manure, compost, and fertilizer to enrich the soil. Stir the
mix into the soil to loosen the top layer so that the vegetables can

garden center in April and are carried through the
summer.
Tropical Plants Give the inside of your house or apartment a tropical feel!
Choose from tropical plants in a full range of sizes. We have
cactus and succulents as well as hanging baskets full of trailing
plants.
Best Tropical Plants for Bright
Light:
Most indoor plants are from
tropical climates. They prefer to grow in bright light, which means
indirect light not direct sunshine. Almost all of the indoor plants
that we carry do well in bright, indirect light. Some examples
include:
There are many tropical plants
that can survive in low light. These are ideal for rooms with little
natural light including basement suites. They include:
Pesticides Adapting to the current organic trend we carry a full range of
pesticides including organic and biological pest control methods. We carry
a selection of the SafersTM brand of pesticides including their
Insecticidal Soap, Trounce, End All, and Slug Bait which are considered to
be the safest pesticides for humans -- and pets. These products can safely
be used on your vegetable crops up until the day before harvest. The
following biological pest controls are available for your garden:
Beneficial Nematodes to control vine weevils
Aphid predators
Ladybugs (for aphids)
Fungus Gnat predator
Spider mite predator
Whitefly predator
We encourage our customers to use the Integrated
Pest Management (IPM) approach to gardening. This involves using good
cultural practices such as:
Clean up and disposal of all
garden waste (dead leaves, twigs etc.)
Fertilizing all
trees and shrubs, because healthy plants are less susceptible to
diseases
Giving plants
the proper space to provide good air circulation
Speaking to one
of our staff about the use of beneficial insects
An aphid colony:
In addition to our organic pesticides we carry a
range of synthetic pesticides for harder to solve problems in the event
that the organic pesticides do not provide the measure of control you are
looking for.
If you are having a pest problem in your garden we
recommend that you bring a few leaves in to one of our stores so that one
of our qualified staff can recommend the appropriate measure to control
the problem.

Peat
Moss

bed helps to retain moisture and break up clay. We carry three convenient
sizes to suit your needs. Sizes: 1 cu. ft.,
2.2 cu. ft., 3.8 cu. ft
Sea Soil
Sea Soil is a "living", organic
soil produced by consistently blending two ingredients: forest fines and
fish waste. Sea Soil contains all the necessary macro nutrients
(1.7-1.5-.6), micro nutrients and trace elements to grow strong, healthy
plants. (There is no need to add expensive trace elements to Sea
Soil).
Fish break down slowly into the basic nitrogen compounds
most desirable to plants, thereby promoting the retention of valuable
nutrients in the soil and plant foliage while prohibiting their quick
leaching away from within the plants reach.
The bark, in our
forest fines, brings all the "good bugs" and micro-organisms from the
forest. Composted bark provides structure to the soil producing a healthy
well-aerated environment allowing moisture, nutrients and oxygen to
readily reach your plants roots. Sea Soil also is weed-free and has a
disease resistant quality to it, eliminating the need for many herbicides.
It has a pleasant odor, much like that of a rich soil. Sea Soil is also an
excellent growth medium that assists in retaining moisture thereby
eliminating the wet/dry scenario which stresses plants.
Fertilizers
Fertilizer is
important to every plant because healthy plants require less maintenance
and are more resistant to disease. Providing the right nutrients in the
right amounts is imperative for a successful garden. We carry a selection
of all purpose and specialty fertilizers for all indoor and outdoor
plants. Fertilizers we carry include:
Evergro Fertilizers
Miracle Gro

Jobe's
